Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there! Or as I think Calder would say, if he could - Happy Da-Da Day!!! Fathers are very important people in our children's lives and I am glad that Calder has a good Dad in his life. The other day I was watching Gary look at Calder and he had a look like he was in love. I told Gary so, and his response was - "I am". :)
I also want to wish a very Happy Father's Day to our friend Esha who is celebrating his first Father's Day - like Gary - but it is all so very new to Esha! He and his wife Hang, my oldest and very dear friend, welcomed their baby boy, Ashur, into the world on June 13th. Congratulations, guys - I know you've waited so long for his arrival!
Before I get to a few pictures in honour of Father's Day, I wanted to share with you a few pictures that I snapped during one of Calder's first forays out into our newly-sodded backyard. Gary and I were so excited to finally get grass, a year to the day of getting possession of the house, and we couldn't wait to get Calder out onto it for one of his first experiences with grass.
Calder certainly didn't know what to make of it at first, and was like a little flamingo in the grass, only touching it with one foot. He wouldn't go off of the blanket we put out there, and anyone who has seen Calder in action knows that he is ALWAYS on the move. He also clung to us for reassurance that all was ok. The next time we took him out he figured all was okay, and now we chase after him outside as we do inside.
Yesterday Gary took Calder upstairs to put him down for a nap while I went to pick up my Mom and sister who were visiting for the day. When we got back, all was quiet in the house. I didn't go into Calder's room for fear that Gary was still trying to get him to sleep (and if Calder sees me, Gary's attempt at putting Calder down for a nap would be thwarted). Well, 15 minutes go by, 20 minutes - still I hear nothing so I go and check - what do I see...?
Today being Father's Day Calder woke him up with a few whacks to his arm and handed Daddy a card, along with some of Daddy's favourite gum, a tub of Dubble Bubble (380 pieces!), a shirt that Calder and Mommy made and a Panini Press, something Daddy has been hinting at for a long time. Has anyone ever tried putting a 9-month old's handprints on a T-shirt before? It's hard work, hee hee! I don't know if I will every try that again, but I think it turned out well - and iron-on transfers (for the letters) are so much fun!
So Happy Father's Day to all those Dads out there. Remember what an important role you play in your daughter or son's life - you make the world of difference when you're there to care.

Gary, I hope you had a fantastic 1st Father's Day!! I heard about all the festivities...including Calder's first swim in a pool! Can't wait to see the video of my little nephew splashing away...Its wonderful to know that Calder is loved by so many, and that he has the support and love from two wonderful and grateful parents! I really enjoyed my visit with you guys on Saturday..I must admit, it was hard not seeing you Calder for that long...I hope that won't happen too often, well, as much as I can help it! Thanks again Elizabeth and Gary for a great barbecue, the first for me this summer..and of course the lovely country drive :)
ReplyDeleteCalder, Auntie Colleen loves you very much and I will see you very soon :)
