Happy Hallowe'en!!

Well I am posting this now because I won't have time to post one tomorrow, and most of you will see this on Hallowe'en day, anyway! I just did a 'photo shoot' with Calder on our front porch in his costume, and boy, is he a cute little monkey! He just makes my heart happy all the time. I hope everyone has a wonderful Hallowe'en, whether you are out with your kids, handing out candy - or whatever you may do!

Almost time for Halloween!!

Well it's almost Halloween, and I've been reading lately on a site I frequent, that some parents don't take their kids out for Halloween till they are 3 years old or so. Well, I am taking Calder out - but it's not for trick or treating, it's just a chance to show him off to our neighbours, really. Since Halloween is on a weekday this year and our family lives too far away to get to with decent timing, our family won't be able to see him in his costume. But, I see nothing wrong with taking him out and seeing what this day is all about. Not that he'll know, or remember, but I think he will enjoy it nonetheless.

I picked up a Halloween pj set for Calder yesterday and he looks so adorable in it!! What a cute little pumpkin. You can also see his new hair"cut". I was just annoyed at all the wisps he had over his forehead so I did by best to trim it. It looks like I cut a lot off, but I just cut all the uneven long strands, I guess of which there were many!

Grandma and Auntie Colleen also came over for a visit this weekend and it was a lot of fun, as always. It is always nice to see my mom and sister, and Calder loves them both very much. Grandma also bought Calder a new sweater and boy, does he look handsome in it!! Thanks, Grandma!!

I also wanted to post a quick picture of Calder dancing to the Backyardigans. He just LOVES the opening music to this show, it almost always inspires him to dance. It is the funniest, yet cutest thing. He loves to spin around like the characters do.

Oh, and look where I found Calder the other day. Silly goose.

Have a wonderful week, everyone!!

Calder loves bananas

Ok, I couldn't think of a better title, and really, this isn't even a "new" picture. It's about 2 weeks old, but I wanted to post something.

I have some new pictures of Calder playing in the leaves at his cousins' birthday party last Saturday, but they are all at home. So, to tide you over, this adorable picture of Calder eating a banana!! He loves fruit, especially if he can eat it like Mommy and Daddy do - holding the banana with the peel is a lot of fun to him!

I love his hair in the picture, he is so handsome!! Anyway, have a Happy Thursday everyone!!

A fun weekend

Yesterday we decided kind of spontaneously that we would just get in the car and drive somewhere. After stopping off for some Tim's in the morning (Calder enjoyed a bagel and cream cheese with Mommy) we stopped off at an Orchard in the Durham region which has a fabulous bakery/gifts store. After getting some Cortland apples for Gary (which he swears are the BEST apples) and some Macintosh apples for me (to make apple crisp with) and some pastries and gingerbread cookies, we were off.

We ended up at a Farm that we went to last year when Calder was just about 6-7 weeks old. Of course, he knew nothing of what was going on, but we couldn't wait till this year to show him the Farm again. Here we are already, and what a difference a year makes in the life of a child. Calder had an amazing time at the Farm - checking out all kinds of farm animals - ponies, cows, chickens and pigs. We also had lots of fun running through a corn maze and picking out a pie pumpkin (nice and small) just for Calder. It was a lovely day, albeit a bit cold - but I would rather it be fall-like weather than last weekend's scorcher.

On our way to the farm....I can't tell if Calder is pleased or not...

Daddy and Calder coming in to the Farm. Calder was already so excited!

It took about 5 shots to finally get Calder to look at the camera in this picture. There were so many things for him to look at!

Mommy and Calder walking through the corn maze...with Calder leading the way!

When Calder sat himself down on a haystack, I just had to take a picture.

Calder's Avo also came for a visit on the weekend. She came over Saturday and stayed overnight to give Gary and I a much-needed date night! We went out for all you can eat sushi and had a lovely time, although we were quite stuffed coming home!

Today (Sunday) we all went out for a trip to the park down the street which was recently finished. There are more things for a toddler to do in this park than in the other local one, and Calder loves it already. He especially loves swings...he gets quite upset if we pass the park without going in! Here are some pictures of our time at the park!

Calder just loves swings. Also, doesn't he look cute in his new hat??? I love it!

Calder being the cute little monkey that he is.

He loves the "car" wheel in the playground. Just imagine him making car noises while he "steers" it. :)

We had a lovely Fall weekend - we hope that everyone else did as well, and may your week speed by quickly!

Thankful

Thanksgiving tends to be the time that we reflect on what we are thankful for - but I try to make it a practice more often than that. I remember Oprah started this thing a few years back where she had a 'grateful journal'. I started one for a while and then stopped. But I think I might start it up again, just so I don't start taking it for granted. I think that is one of life's sad stories when someone takes their life and all that it is about, for granted.

Gary and I definitely have a lot of things to be thankful for. We have a beautiful (inside and out) son who is healthy, we have a house and a car, and two good jobs, we have family that loves us to pieces. We have friends. Gary and I have our health (for the most part - but anyone who knows us knows that the past little while we've each struggled with that) and we have a (most of the time) good dog. We have all the accoutrements of life that we need - we're able to go out every once in a while for a meal. No, we're not able to take a trip abroad, or even eat out every week, and our bedroom still has just a bed and two nightstands in it - but is that what makes us happy? No. What makes me happy is health of all whom I love and being able to love and being loved. I think without those things my soul would surely wither away to nothing.

Life throws stuff at us all the time, good and bad, and you have to try to roll with the punches. Although we may never win the lottery or get the house of our dreams, or be a 2-car family, at least we'll have each other and our beautiful son. That should be enough to make anyone happy. It's enough to make me thankful for what I have.
